The Trojan War legends can seem to cast the Achaean Greeks and the Trojans as the two great powers of the Bronze Age world. However, the real power in Anatolia (modern-day Turkey, where Troy is located) at that time was the Hittite Empire. The Hittites rivaled even the Egyptians under Rameses II. Those two truly great ancient powers clashed in the Battle of Kadesh in 1274 BCE; the result of the battle is considered a draw.
